Vegetarian Almost

I am an almost vegetarian on a quest to make my diet healthier and more plant based for health reasons. I just completed a month of mostly lacto-ovo vegetarianism it was pretty successful. My aim right now is to remain vegetarian for the rest of the month. Then take it from there in November. I might visit the option of pescetarian, but I'm not fully certain as yet. Is 100% lacto-ovo veg in my future? I guess I'll just have to keep tuning in to find out where this journey leads. Vegetarian recipes, information and resources can be found here. I'd appreciate positive advice and support! The blog is currently in transition, but should be completely finished by November 1. The new link will be: Almost Vegetarian

Is there meat in this?

Yesterday, I went to Boston Market.  I thought it’d be no trouble - there are lots of vegetarian sides, there should be no trouble.  I was surprised to find that they even had a 3 sides “meal”.  So I chose Mashed Potatoes, steamed vegetables, garlic lemon spinach.  Pretty ok right?  I even went as far as asking - There’s no meat in the vegetables is there? - “No”, I was told “no meat in the vegetables.”

When I came home and logged my food, I was able to look up the ingredients in everything.  All was well until in the ingredients of the spinach I saw [RENDERED CHICKEN FAT].

My own fault.

Lessons Learned

1.  Research should be done before - not after an outing.

2.  Do not depend on others to know what you need to know for yourself  [Even if it is their job, it does not mean that they know what perhaps they should (there’s a possibility that not even the higher ups know).]

Count up clock restart.

*Incidentally, more research led me to a page in which someone said there is gelatin in the Mashed Potatoes, but I haven’t found evidence of this.  I also came across a page that seems to have copied and pasted from a letter to/from a Boston Market Representative saying that all of their sides but two -loaded Mashed Potato and Sweet Potato Casserole were vegetarian.  (We know this can’t possibly be the case if their own website shows different.) But there was also no proof that this letter was actually from a Boston Market employee.
